So, another week, another Mensa Masterchef. This time, it is brought to you by Ima! Devilled eggs, bami and agar agar for 2.99 (!), let’s see what’s in store this time.
Tuesday 25th of April, (almost) exactly 19:00 and the food was ready! Who would’ve thought? We were served devilled eggs, or fried roti rolls as a vegan alternative. Inclusivity for our vegan friends, we like it. Three eggs is what each person was granted, and they were good. The balance between sweet sour and sweet was good and the piece of tomato on it was the symbolic cherry on top. Simple but effective. Or as SBeve said: “It’s nice, I like it”. Unfortunately, we did not taste the vegan option but hey, you cannot have everything in life.
The main course was served at 19:35. Bami ketchap with chicken or vegan meat substitute pieces, bean sprouts, and spinach topped up with peanut sauce. Ima this is just cheating, peanut sauce is heavenly. Anyway, the bami tasted good! The little spiciness was on point, especially in combination with all the herbs and other good stuff that was added. We did however observe the noodles to be a bit hard ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). The vegetables in combination with peanut sauce, how could it be something else, tasted nice as well. The chicken pieces were a little dry inside, but the generous presence of sauce made up for this. In short, or as S🅱️eve said: “It’s good!” There was not a lot of bijhaal though, but for the low price of 2.99, we will not make a fuss about this.
Lastly, time for dessert, served at 20:05. To be enjoyed were three types of agar agar (isn’t this what they grow cell cultures on?) which were flavoured with chocolate, macha and coffee. To complement the freshness of the agar agar, condensed milk was poured over as a sauce. The creaminess of this was a good addition! The coffee one was our favourite. Also, it was served in these cute little boat-shaped thingies made of wood. The drawback of these were the small, little crevices through which the condensed milk could escape, leading to SBeve shouting: “Oh no, my cum!”. All in all it was a fine way to end the mensa though!
So wrapping up: It was very good yes. Nice eggs as a starter, a good hearty main course, and a fresh desert, and that for only 2.99. What we also appreciated was the good preparation of this Masterchef edition. The eggs and the agar agar were ready to go before the mensa even started! The other contenders better watch out for this one!
