Chutes and ladders

This is my first time posting on the Redâkkie Fôrum (if this sees the light of day). I wrote this on 10/09/2026, 4 days after meeting Maya at Metalcafé. Although I have been a self-identified poet for 5 years, I stopped writing recently. Well, until 10/09 I suppose. Something something new muse. I have been keeping the writing up since, so expect more from me (keep me to that, please).
Thanks for reading, it truly means a lot for people to hear my voice.

Your proletarian poet,

Chutes and ladders

It's a ladder I see
unfolding above me
with every step I take
an action that precedes it
No, an inter-action
For I could not build this ladder alone.

Is there hierarchy in this order?
Where the step I stand on
In the moment of its creation
Gets the most force applied?
As I rest upon it, shaking,
Wind in my hair, fear of heights.

The steps can shift, interchange,
but never merge, it would collapse.
At least it has, once before.
To dance from beam to beam
Is better than looking down,
isn't it?

But it does take looking down,
This dance, this lifestyle.
This ladder can not exist without
Every beam standing
Right where it stands
Can it?

I ask myself this, as I look down at the base
And smile.

It's stronger than it was, last I checked.
